Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon is widely credited as the world's first commercially marketed single-barrel bourbon, released in 1984 by Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee in honour of Colonel Albert B. Blanton. Distilled and aged at Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, Kentucky — specifically from Warehouse H, a metal-clad rickhouse Colonel Blanton chose for its faster, more intense maturation — each bottle is hand-dumped from a single cask, hand-labeled with the barrel number, and topped with one of eight collectible horse-and-jockey stoppers that spell out "BLANTONS" when lined up.
At 93 proof, the palate leans rich and complex: caramel, honeyed citrus, vanilla, baking spice, and a soft rye tingle, carried by a medium oak backbone and a long, warm finish. It drinks beautifully neat in a Glencairn, holds up over a single cube, and makes an unexpectedly elegant Old Fashioned when you want the base to drive the drink.
Blanton's is one of the most sought-after bourbons in Buffalo Trace's portfolio and has become a cult bottle on secondary markets. Collectors routinely chase the full eight-stopper set. If you already pour Buffalo Trace or Eagle Rare, Blanton's is the natural next step up in the Buffalo Trace family.
