Iolite plain rondelles measure approximately 6mm graduating to 7mm in diameter, have a vitreous luster, good polish, symmetrical rondelle shapes, well matched for tone on strand, the pleochroic gems have a violetish blue, grey and colorless hue depending on direction of view, and the transparent bodies have visible internal characteristics.
